Stuff The Bus!

July 15th, 2023

Since 2017, Pawling Rotary has spearheaded our summer community-wide event with partners from The Pawling Central School District (which donates a school bus to this event), Pawling’s local Hannaford’s grocery store and the Pawling Resource Center,  (assisting with coordinating this event and is the recipient of donated items for their food pantry during their slowest time of year for food pantry donations).  With many volunteers from all partner organizations and the amazing generosity of the Pawling community, Stuff the Bus has become a summer-time staple on our Rotary Calendar!

Dutchess County Naturalization Ceremony

April 14th, 2023

In  April of 2018, Pawling Rotary was honored to host (along with the Town of Pawling), the Dutchess County Naturalization Ceremony for new American citizens.  We were slated to co-host again in 2020 when Covid-19 canceled this event.  In April, 2023, we were again chosen to host along with our town, and we were thrilled to be able to welcome 51 new citizens and their families to the festivities. This event is clearly emotional for those becoming citizens and for all of us who are privileged observers, as well. Invited guests included Pawling High School Students and teachers. Speakers included the Dutchess County Sheriff, Pawling Town Supervisor, and Rotary President. There is not a “dry eye in the house,” as brand new citizens pledge their allegiance to our flag and celebrate this momentous, hard-earned day with all in attendance.  Although this is not an annual event, the Pawling Rotary Club looks forward to joining, with the Town of Pawling again, as hosts of this meaningful ceremony in the future.

Rotary Day of Service For Pawling Resource Center

The Pawling Rotary Club participated in Rotary’s National Day of Service on Saturday, May 20th with an organized community effort to collect toiletries for the Pawling Resource Center. This event, coordinated by Pawling’s club, was held in partnership with Pawling CVS and local student organizations, including Team Community at Pawling Elementary School, National Junior Honor Society at Pawling Middle School, and National Honor Society at Pawling High School, who made colorful collection boxes. These boxes were then manned by students for the weeks leading up to this National Day of Service.

Members of Pawling Rotary gathered on May 20th outside of CVS at 26 East Main Street, to collect toiletries from the wider community. The Rotarians who volunteered their time or materials were Scott Shafer, Medina Khalil, Coleen Snow, Laurie Spens, John Ammaturo, Susan Stone, Lori Johnson, Stefan Gramenz and Kim Fontana, school Superintendent and Rotary chair of the event. The volunteers and those who donated were undaunted by the rain, as evidenced by the overflowing boxes by the event’s end. When asked why this event means so much to her, Ms. Fontana shared, “Everyone in Pawling, from the students to Rotary, to all our community members, recognize the important work the Pawling Resource Center does to support our students and families. It is wonderful to see the community working together to support the PRC’s work.”

Holiday Luncheon

Held in mid-December, the Rotary Holiday Luncheon is a particularly joyous gathering.  Held  in Lankler Hall at Christ Church on Quaker Hill, the club takes this opportunity to thank the community for its support and happily hands out gifts and grants to organizations that support area children.  More than Thirteen thousand dollars was presented to worthwhile not-for-profits at this annual event in 2022.  Throughout the year, the Rotary Club supports the Interact Club, Pawling High School seniors with two College Scholarships, camp scholarships for disadvantaged kids, scholarships to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards conference, and provides disaster relief to affected communities through private member donations.  In all, The Pawling Rotary Club gave more than Twenty-eight thousand dollars to worthy causes in 2022!
